About Perth Flying Squadron Yacht Club

## Introduction

- Perth Flying Squadron Yacht Club (PFSYC) is a long-established, mixed yacht club founded in 1897 and located on the Esplanade foreshore at Dalkeith. The clubhouse overlooks the widest stretch of the Swan River and presents a combined programme of competitive sailing, social twilight racing and recreational powerboating.

## Programmes and training

- PFSYC is an Australian Sailing accredited Discover Sailing Centre and runs structured youth and adult pathways. Junior training includes Tackers and Optimist activity, with Start Sailing courses and loan club boats available. The club also promotes Discover Keelboat/keelboat taster days for adult beginners and supports regular keelboat crew and race opportunities. A year‑round racing calendar caters to a broad range of abilities.

## Location and waters

- The club occupies a four‑acre riverfront site at Dalkeith facing across the Swan River to the Perth city skyline. The river reach in front of the clubhouse is described by the club as the widest part of the Swan and is used extensively for yacht racing, powerboat events and general water-sport activity. Onshore facilities include marina pens, hard standing and undercover boat storage to support the on‑water programme.

## History and clubhouse

- PFSYC traces its origins to a meeting held on 8 June 1897. The club has relocated over time and established its Dalkeith clubhouse in the 1960s on reclaimed land; the grounds and clubhouse are recognised locally for their heritage and social significance. Over the decades the club has combined historic credentials with growing junior participation and an expanding programme of community and social events.
