Marina services range from arranging access for a visiting contractor to coordinating several jobs while a yacht is alongside. The marina may provide some work directly and refer other work to independent businesses. Start with the tasks, the boat’s location and the period it will be available. Ask who books each trade, who authorises additional work and how completed jobs are recorded, especially when you cannot attend the boat during the service visit.
What to discuss
- Coordination of maintenance visits and contractor access.
- Alongside service bookings and support for visiting boats.
- Arrangements for facilities, deliveries and other marina-based work.
Prepare your enquiry
- Boat dimensions, current location and dates available for work.
- A prioritised job list with existing contractor contacts.
- Who may approve work and how the owner can be reached.
Compare the scope
- Which services are delivered by the marina and which by separate contractors?
- Who coordinates appointments when several trades depend on each other?
- How are additional work, access charges and completion reports handled?
Before you book
Will the marina manage every contractor for me?
Ask what coordination is included. Providing access, making introductions and managing a complete maintenance project are different levels of service.
Can work proceed while I am away?
Agree access, decision limits and reporting in advance. Give the marina and contractors a named contact for questions that fall outside the approved scope.
What information helps a marina assess my berth enquiry?
Give the operator the vessel name, length overall, beam, draft and intended dates, using the measurements and units it requests. Mention access needs and any work you hope to arrange aboard. Ask which details are still required before the marina can confirm suitability, price and availability; a directory listing does not reserve a berth.
How do I compare a short stay with a longer agreement?
Compare the full period and inclusions: utilities, access, parking, visitor arrangements, permitted work and departure notice. Ask how charges and obligations change if your dates move. Save the current written offer rather than relying on an older advertised rate or another owner’s experience.
