About Sydney By Sail
Sydney By Sail makes Sydney Harbour feel less like a backdrop and more like the reason for the day. Departing from the Darling Harbour area, the operator offers daily sailing experiences, private skippered charters, corporate regattas, sailing lessons and romantic overnight packages, all built around the city’s harbour, skyline, islands and breeze.
The range is useful because not every guest wants the same harbour experience. Visitors can book an easy hosted sail, couples can look at overnight or private options, teams can use the fleet for regattas and team-building, and locals can treat the harbour as a venue for birthdays, celebrations or client entertaining. The skipper handles the hard parts while guests still get the sensation of being on a real sailing yacht.
It suits first-time sailors as well as guests who want something more hands-on.
## Sailing school Sydney By Sail's sailing school is based at the Festival Pontoon at the Australian National Maritime Museum in Darling Harbour. Founded in 1995 by Olympic yachtsman Matt Hayes and accredited by International Yacht Training (IYT), it trains small groups on the company's 31 to 50-foot Hunter, Elan and Dufour yachts, from a two-day Introduction to Yachting through IYT International Crew and International Bareboat Skipper to ICC assessments and offshore mile-building passages.
